Raincoast's Cetacean Conservation Research Program works in collaboration with Indigenous communities and other organizations to study how cetaceans use sound, to interpret trends and impacts of underwater noise, to evaluate killer whale health and nutrition in the face of ecosystem change, and to understand beluga whale communication and behaviour. 

Frontiers North Adventures is excited to partner with Raincoast as of 2022 to provide our guests with the opportunity to learn about and deepen their understanding of beluga whales and their Arctic ecosystem, their complex vocalizations, and the conservation threats they face.

​​Beluga whales, nicknamed “Sea Canaries”, are one of the most vocal marine mammal species, using sound to communicate, maintain contact, navigate, detect prey, and avoid predators. The central role of acoustic communication in their lives is a key consideration not only in terms of evaluating the effects of underwater noise pollution on this species, but also in terms of designing methods to monitor their populations effectively.

Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), founded in 1670, is North America's longest continually operated company.  In 2012, Frontiers North Adventures partnered with the Hudson’s Bay Company to outfit our Tundra Buggy Lodge with iconic Hudson’s Bay Company point blankets and other items from the Hudson’s Bay Company Collection. At the core of both Frontiers North Adventures and the Hudson’s Bay Company we are companies of adventurers. Guests who stay at our Tundra Buggy Lodge will curl up at night under the iconic point blankets that played a part in the early fur trading done by Hudson’s Bay Company explorers. We think it’s a great way for our guests to experience part of the history of the north.

When hosting guests on the tundra, a key service we provide is interpretation of the wildlife that surrounds us. Our field staff are constantly scanning the horizon to locate and identify animals, from polar bears to lemmings. We feel our guides are the best in the industry. That being said, the tundra is a pretty big place.

More than a decade ago we created www.polarbearcam.com, where annually we freely broadcast live wild polar bear video taken with cameras mounted on our Tundra Buggy Lodge and Tundra Buggy One and shared with passionate viewers all over the world. That project evolved over time and now, with our partners at explore.org and Polar Bears International, each autumn we inspire millions of people worldwide with Churchill's polar bears. We're really proud about that.

On behalf of the people of Canada, Parks Canada protects and presents nationally significant examples of Canada’s natural and cultural heritage, including Wapusk National Park, and fosters public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment in ways that ensure the ecological and commemorative integrity of these places for present and future generations.  Wapusk National Park protects one of the largest concentrations of polar bear maternity dens in the world and is home to a long-term study on polar bears that commenced in 1981.  Parks Canada and Frontiers North Adventures work together to provide a safe and enjoyable polar bear viewing and learning experience at Cape Churchill in Wapusk National Park.  We’re particularly proud to be the only company in the world to be granted a business license from Parks Canada to host guests overnight in Wapusk National Park.
