Get out on the tundra!
Season of Travel: July - August | October - November
Get out on the tundra!
A full day experience to see incredible wildlife in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area
This official Tundra Buggy® adventure offers guests an exclusive chance to travel into the Churchill Wildlife Management Area (CWMA) for wildlife viewing and photography. Our official Tundra Buggy® has exclusive access to roam on the established trails in the CWMA, with Frontiers North Adventures owning 12 out of the 18 established permits that have permission to travel within the CWMA.
After venturing out these trails to help minimize our impact on the tundra, your Tundra Buggy driver will take you into areas with a high probability of wildlife sightings. These areas are the best locations in the Churchill area to experience a variety of wildlife in their natural environment that call this place home including polar bears, caribou, wolves, foxes, arctic hare, and hundreds of bird species!

“We had the most incredible day ever! We were very fortunate to have perfect weather and got to see many polar bears doing everything from sleeping, wandering, and even sparing. We even got to see a mother polar bear with her cub so we were able to check off all of our “hope to see” boxes! The landscape itself is worth the trip so the animals we saw were truly a giant bonus. The tundra buggies themselves are comfortable, and between the number of windows and the viewing dock everyone was able to see everything and get great photos. Our driver, Jim, was informative and entertaining. You can tell that he truly loves his job, the bears and Churchill itself. The lunch served on the buggy was a delightful surprise. The sandwiches and soup were absolutely delicious and were incredibly filling. All in all, this day trip is one of the best trips we’ve ever done and we highly recommend this company.”

As you know we were originally coming in 2020 and this trip is something we’ve dreamt of and have been saving for, for years. And it was everything we could have possibly hoped for! I know JP said we were really lucky to encounter the bears that we did but I am sure it was in no small part down to his experience as a guide. We feel so lucky to have been on his tour. He was knowledgeable and had a fabulous personable way of imparting this knowledge, whilst also managing to keep all of the coach engaged, relaxed and in line no matter what was happening. He was also very funny. And we were impressed with his rescue of another buggy! I’d really appreciate it if you could pass along our thanks for making our dream trip come true. ”

Have Questions?
Frequently Asked
While our standard touring Tundra Buggy® is built with 40 seats, we strictly enforce a maximum capacity of 36 guests on our Summer and Autumn Day Tours.
We intentionally limit the number of passengers to ensure the best possible experience for our guests. Leaving these extra seats open means that everyone on board has more room to move around the interior, so they can easily access the windows and outdoor observation deck for optimal wildlife viewing. It also gives the option to comfortably store day bags, photography equipment and warm layers that guests may bring.
If you prefer a more intimate wildlife experience with even more space, all of our multi-day package tours feature a maximum capacity of 22 guests or fewer per Tundra Buggy.
If you are booking your own flights out of Churchill, we do not recommend scheduling a Tundra Buggy Day Tour on your departure day.
Here is why we suggest leaving a buffer:
-
It is a Full-Day Commitment: Our Day Tours are comprehensive excursions that typically do not return to town until late in the afternoon (typically around 5:00 PM).
-
The Tundra is Unpredictable: The subarctic is wild! An incredible, once-in-a-lifetime polar bear sighting right at the end of the day, sudden weather shifts, or the reality of navigating rugged terrain can sometimes slightly delay our return time to Churchill.
-
Flight Schedules: Commercial flights in the North can be subject to schedule changes. Cutting it too close between the end of your tour and your flight check-in can add unnecessary stress to what should be a relaxing, awe-inspiring day.
For the most stress-free experience, we highly recommend booking your Day Tour on a day when you have no outbound travel plans.
If you are booking our specialized One Day Polar Bear Adventure (a same-day fly-in/fly-out package from Winnipeg) or any of our multi-day package tours, you do not need to worry! We coordinate and include private charter flights and transfers for you to ensure everything runs smoothly.
We intentionally keep our group sizes small to maximize your wildlife viewing experience. Often, day tours sell out in advance. If this is the case, don't panic, you still have options!
The absolute best first step is to connect directly with our team. We constantly monitor guest interest, and if we see high demand for certain dates and have resources available, we occasionally open up entirely new tour departures!
When you reach out, our team can also help you with the following:
-
Join the Waitlist: If a specific tour date is marked as "Sold Out" or "Limited," let us know! We occasionally have cancellations, and our sales team can add you to a waitlist, notifying you the moment a spot opens up.
-
Explore Alternative Products: If your preferred tour is full, our experts can recommend similar itineraries that deliver the same incredible wildlife experiences.
-
Plan for Next Season: If your schedule is entirely inflexible and the current year is fully booked, we highly recommend considering planning your adventure for the following year. Booking early guarantees you get your absolute first choice of dates, tours, and accommodations!
