Sean’s Life-Changing Trip to See Polar Bears

Earlier this month, Frontiers North received a special request: Could we help make a dream come true for a young boy named Sean who has made it his mission to save polar bears.

The request came to us from WE Charity, a movement that empowers people to change the world. They were working on creating a video to help tell an amazing story about youth and volunteering. Their goal for the video was to inspire other youth to get involved in the causes they’re passionate about.

Since he was 8-years-old, Sean has been organizing a walk for the students at his school to bring awareness to climate change and its impact on polar bears and donates all funds raised to WWF Canada. Sean speaks regularly at school assembly’s and in front of his class taking his message to anyone who will listen. WE Charity connected with WWF Canada who introduced them to Sean and to Frontiers North.

Sean was a kid after our own hearts. To have an opportunity to make this dream trip a reality for a young person whose mission is to inspire people to change their daily habits to save polar bears was a natural fit for us. No question we would do whatever we could to make this trip a reality. Many thanks to Calm Air who helped provide flights to Churchill and Hudson Bay Helicopter who took Sean and his mom on a helicopter tour to Cape Churchill where, in his own words, Sean saw, “more polar bears than he could count."

After spending time out on a Tundra Buggy with Sean we can see why WWF Canada and WE Charity wanted to surprise Sean with this life-changing adventure. We hope that by bringing him face-to-face with polar bears in the wild he will continue his mission and inspire others as well.

Sean’s story is being shared at the WE Day Family event in Toronto on October 19, 2016.

Watch it stream live.

WE Day is part of the movement that brings people together and gives them the tools to change the world locally and globally.

Frontiers North is thrilled to have played a small part in this movement. Stay tuned for Sean’s story which will be airing as part of the National WE Day broadcast on CTV.

Until then, here are some behind-the-scenes pictures of Sean on his adventure to see polar bears with Frontiers North.
